I will confess: I was one of the nutty people who went to Target yesterday to check out the much-hyped collection Peter Pilotto designed for Target.

I did not sleep outside or line up early.

I did, however, go right after church (and without the kids so I could get a good look!)

I had the chance to see in person most of the pieces of the collection and I tried on a bunch of them.

The clothes are well made, fun for spring and summer and on-trend. It was definitely one of my favorite designer launches offered by Target. The clothes completely echo Peter Pilotto‘s main line designs.

Most of the dresses that had been plastered all over magazines were gone at my local Target store, or were out in most sizes by my 10:30am arrival. Those dresses are now unavailable on Target’s website (although they are already listing at a good mark-up on eBay and from outside sellers on Amazon.)

However, many of the sold-out dresses’ loud amalgam of prints are not wearable for every day. In fact, most of my favorite pieces in this collection are still available online!

So if you did not get that red strapless dress or the purple psychedelic frock, do not despair. Here are the pieces you can still get that I personally attest are affordable and awesome.

Peter Pilotto for Target Cardigan -Blue/White Colorblock $34.99 – The black mesh sleeved cardie is out, but the white sleeved one is still in and it is so cool!

Peter Pilotto for Target Pencil Skirt – Light Blue Floral/Check Print $34.99 – I am going to wear this with a black long-sleeved tee in spring and a black tank in summer. LOVE. The heavy cotton blend reminds me of Lily Pulitzer and Trina Turk skirts.

Peter Pilotto for Target Skirt – Black/White Print $34.99 – Another great skirt. This one is all black and white and the asymmetrical hem and front draping are very flattering. (By the way, I tried the high-low hem skirts and I did not find them as flattering and felt they may become dated looking faster.)

Peter Pilotto for Target Crisscross Dress – Purple Floral Print $29.99 – This was my favorite dress I tried on in the collection. Body conscious stretch cotton makes for a very curvy Marilyn silhouette. The superduper busy print means I will pair this with very simple hair and minimal jewelry.

Peter Pilotto for Target Tank – Purple Floral Print $24.99 – This tank makes shoulders look cut and waists small. It’s a great print too.

Peter Pilotto for Target One-Piece Swimsuit – Red Iris Print$34.99 Chic and cool one-piece. I love a good one piece. This one is a youthful cut, with very high 1980’s style sides and showing a tasteful bit of side booty in the back.

One note: I found the collection to run small. It is juniors sizing. So if you are a two at Banana/Ann Taylor/GAP, etc., go for the four or the six in this line. I am normally a 8/10, 29/30, and I found the 12, 14 and XLs fit best.  The cuts are generous in the shoulders and chest, but very slim in the waist and hip areas.

It is very cute stuff but a bit loud for me, not sure I can pull it off!

I like the mixed prints – I’ve been seeing a lot of those lately and I haven’t ventured to purchase yet but I’ve definitely got my eye on it. Thanks for sharing!
