My husband Chris and I always see Mark Oliver Everett/E/The Eels when his tours come through DC, and we are always wowed, rocked and inspired by the shows.

But at tonight’s The Eels concert at The Lincoln Theatre, there was a special second encore…with Steve Perry.

This was only his second public performance since 1995.

Six days ago Steve Perry took the stage with Everett and The Eels in St. Paul. The Wall Street Journal’s John Jurgensen covered the interesting friendship and unexpected public appearance.

Due to the popularity of the article and buzz amongst E fans about Perry’s jam session, when Everett took the stage in DC tonight, he mentioned Perry. Everett assured fans that there would be no Perry tonight, but we would be taken on a musical “journey” nonetheless.

He was so lying.

Perry performed Mark Oliver Everett’s “It’s a Motherf*cker”, Sam Cooke’s “Only Sixteen” and his Journey hits “Open Arms” and “Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’.”
