How many times do you hit the grocery store per week? Once? Twice? Three times a shopper? I’m there constantly, from the quick grab of milk, diapers and that missing spice for a recipe, to massive, honking, overflowing cart blowouts that make everyone in line behind me groan.
But here is a cool way we can benefit from our grocery shoppage: We can now get Safeway Gas Reward points at Exxon stations. Last month I shopped solely at Safeway saved BIG at the pump. We can earn up to $1 off per gallon in Rewards at participating Exxon locations and save big on two of our most frequent and necessary expenses: groceries and gas.
I live in the DC area, and previously we were limited to a similar gas rewards program with Giant and Shell, or if we were CostCo. members, driving out of our way to fill up for less. So I’m glad that Safeway is offering us another gas savings option. Learn more about the Safeway/Exxon Gas Rewards program.

I saved 50 cents a gallon last week. It was a pleasant surprise that I had accumulated so many points so quickly.

The gas points don’t roll off as quick as Giant’s.

This is a bonus because the marketing geniuses at Safeway already have had us hooked at shopping there for the past 6 months. They have tons of coupons online that you can add to your card as well as really really good deals that have saved us hundreds of dollars and I believe they track your purchases because the coupons are for items that I use. Its not hard to rack up those points in fact my husband just pumped our gas using those rewards and saved 50 cents per gallon. He was so happy!

I spend most of my money on fruits, vegetables and chicken. Those are our main staples here.

I’m not 100% sure because my hubby does the grocery shopping (!) but I believe we spend the most money on produce, especially fresh fruit!

The priciest part of our grocery budget is fresh produce. No surprise there.

Our local Safeway is within walking distance, so when the weather is nice we’ll take family walks to the store (how quaint, I know). It’s expensive keeping growing boys in fresh produce!

We actually spend the most on organic milk! Both of my sons are milk addicts and drink at least 5 cartons
