My favorite gift (to receive) is new pajamas. Nothing makes me happier. There’s something about wearing a totally comfortable yet pretty set of jammies, as opposed to ratty old tees that are one step away from the rag bin, that puts a spring in my step and a cleansing breath in my lungs.
I put my PJs on right after dinner (the better to save on dry cleaning and laundry) and keep them on through making the breakfasts, which means I wear my PJs for more hours than I wear my favorite jeans. I wear them when I am working at the computer in the evenings and early mornings, which are a hefty portion of my office hours. My pajamas are a hard-working bunch.
So I was completely excited when the folks at jijamas asked me to review their just-launched line of women’s cotton pajamas. “Jijamas” is how the founders’ — husband and wife team Gustavo and Courtney Sanchez — toddlers pronounce “pajamas.” The simple cotton shirt and pants sets are crafted of the softest, most luxe Pima cotton I have worn next to my skin. Again inspired by their children, the founders decided to make pajamas for adults that were every bit as soft and comfortable as the high-end cotton that was used in their newborns’ pjs.
Jijamas deliberately run large due to the 100 percent luxe Pima cotton’s shrinkage after washing, and the jijamas site clearly directs you which size to order. For instance, though I am merely 5’7, the site advises those 5’6 and taller to order a Tall to retain the correct length after washing.
I was sent The Lighthearted in grey, which consists of a short-sleeved tee and striped drawstring capri pants. I am also a fan of The Soul Mate, which is a long-sleeved tee with striped pants in gray, blue, pink and lavender, and The Therapist, which reverses the motif and offers a striped tee with solid pants. If you consider yourself a very stripey type, you can also choose The Better Half in either pink or lavender, with stripes on both your top and bottom.
All sets are $90, reflecting the craftsmanship and top-quality materials. Check out these great styles. You can also give the gal on your list a jijamas gift card and let her choose the stripe and color combo she likes best.
If you are shopping for women’s pajamas this holiday season, you will score BIG points by going with jijamas. They are fab. And if you too are a pajama freak like me, they are the best gift you will give yourself for 2014. Well, that and a very cozy sleep!
